Cops vs. Old Timers -- Take 56

This Labor Day is the 56th consecutive year of the annual charity contest between the Peabody Police Department and the North Shore Old Timers.

Peabody's finest will once again take the diamond at Emerson Park on Labor Day against the North Shore Old Timers for charity. And once again, players from the Lynnfield police will be joining their Peabody brethren.

The charity baseball game enters its 56th consecutive year and pits police against former professional athletes from around the North Shore, including several former Red Sox players.

The Old Timers lineup features Bill "Spaceman" Lee, Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd, Chris Howard, Rawly Eastwick, Kenny Ryan and Peabody's own Steve Lomasney and John Tudor.

The day begins with a baseball clinic for ages 8-12 from 8-10 a.m., followed by the game itself at 10 a.m. There will be raffles, a moon bounce and a silent auction with various items.

Admission is free and donations are welcome. All proceeds benefit the Jimmy Fund.

For more information on the event or if you'd like to make a donation, contact Peabody Detective Stephanie Lane at 978-538-6361.
