Chelsea Man Found Guilty of Manslaughter in Peabody Dad's Death

Jury finds Chelsea man, 25, guilty of voluntary manslaughter in death of 34-year-old Peabody man at Lynn warehouse where he worked and was staying in 2010.

A 25-year-old Chelsea man charged with inflicting a severe beating leading to the death of a 34-year-old Peabody father in 2010 was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter Wednesday.

The Essex County District Attorney's office said a Salem Superior Court jury found Fernando Aristy, 25, guilty on that charge in the death of Chad McDonald, 34. The DA's office, however, had sought a charge of first-degree murder.

Judge David Lowy is expected to pronounce a sentence for Aristy on Friday at 2 p.m.

Prosecutors said Aristy beat McDonald in the early morning hours of Oct. 9, 2010 outside a storage facility at 37 Bennett St. in Lynn where McDonald worked and was staying at the time. The two were apparently fighting over a parking space.

During the course of the fight, McDonald grabbed screwdriver and Aristy wielded a piece of wood, prosecutors told a trial jury this past week. The two also had a previous run-in from which Aristy could have been seeking revenge, prosecutors argued.

McDonald was disovered the next day, 12 hours after the fight ended, by a friend and taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He died 11 days later.

Essex Assistant District Attorneys Maureen Wilson Leal and Melissa Woodard prosecuted the case along with the help of state police detectives and Lynn detectives Steve Pohle and Thomas Mulvey.

If I am correct, I think your husband lived in the house on Cashman Rd. that I grew up in. What a small world. Anyway, hope things get better for you.
