Chart: Violent Crime Statistics on the North Shore
This week's chart totals violent crime in the region.
Violent crime is considered any crime in which force is used upon the victim. These crimes include rape, murder, robbery.
The data below is courtesy the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The data does not break down what type of crimes were accounted for in each community.
Lynn and Salem had the highest total instances of violent crime whereas Essex had the least.

Salem PD keeps those numbers and have presented them at various public meetings over the last couple of years.

The majority of violent crime has always been in the point area. The problem in Salem is that the point area expands every year and the growth of the college has resulted in an increase in crime around the college as well. If you combine the two areas you have an area that goes from the Mhead line to Derby St and from the water to the train tracks.
