12 of the Strangest Calls to Peabody Police in 2012
Some highlights from the police press log during the course of 2012.
As 2012 comes to end, we're looking at some of the strangest calls to the Peabody Police Department that made it into the press log this past year.
1. August 11
7:40 p.m. A caller at Whispering Meadows reported a neighbor videotaped a man masturbating earlier that day. Police said it was reported previously. A 52-year-old man who lives at the mobile home park on Route 1 was issued a court summons for lewd, wanton and lascivious conduct. No further details were available.
2. August 8
7:21 p.m. Saugus police said the mother of a 16-year-old female called to report that her daughter was "kidnapped," but then recanted and said she may be married to a "gypsy" instead and the couple were living at a home on Johnson Street. Peabody officers checked the residence and spoke to an adult there who told them the girl was married to the male in question. The female, however, was not home at the time.
3. December 1
10:02 p.m. A 30-year-old Peabody woman who lives on Winona Street was arrested, following a motor vehicle stop at the corner of Lowell Street and Jennifer Lane. She was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and a marked lanes violation. A caller said she witnessed an intoxicated woman enter her vehicle on Canal Street in Salem and head toward Peabody.
4. August 16
11:04 a.m. A resident of Eastman Park called police and reported she was locked out of her house and naked. An officer was able to help the woman back into her home.
5. December 11
11:46 a.m. A caller at the clubhouse on Huntington Drive reported the trash collectors found a heavy bag that appeared to be leaking blood. An officer said the bag contained the remains of a deer.
6. October 1
9:36 a.m. A 17-year-old Peabody male was arrested on a warrant and charges of assault and battery and breaking and entering for a misdemeanor. Police received a report of a disturbance on Pierpont Street in which three males entered an apartment and beat up a resident. Two other suspects -- 20 and 17 -- both from Peabody, were also issued summonses for assault and battery and breaking and entering. One was also charged with threats to commit a crime.
7. November 27
5:44 p.m. A caller reported two people were engaged in sexual activities inside an SUV in an employee parking lot behind 4 Centennial Dr. Police checked the area, but didn't find anything.
8 . August 12
1:40 p.m. A 78-year-old Peabody man was transported to Mass. General Hospital after he was struck by a car on Lynnfield Street. The car involved was a Toyota Camry driven by an 81-year-old Peabody man, according to police. The victim's car was left behind TJ's Variety with the store's permission, police said. Both men live in the general area of the convenience store.
9. November 30
12:45 p.m. Police responded to Pump It Up on Webster Street, following a report of a threat made by a customer. Police said the customer was upset due to fact there was no food included in the party she booked for Sunday. She then canceled the party and complained to the main office in Florida, saying "This is the reason why people bring guns to places." Police said they would contact the woman to inform her she is not welcome at the business in the future. The owner said she would be hiring private security for Sunday and was advised to call police if the disgruntled customer shows up.
10. February 19
7:45 p.m. A caller at the Plaza Motel reported he caught an employee looking into his room through the window. The man said he was only making his nightly rounds. The guests were given their money back, however, and left to find another motel.
11. August 4
5:19 a.m. A caller on Mansfield Street complained of loud music and people dancing naked in a neighbor's driveway. Police said the revelers were sent back inside the residence, and they weren't entirely naked -- they had underwear on.
12. October 1
7:39 p.m. A caller at an Elm Street apartment reported her older sister attacked her younger sister. Police said the fight was over a bag of chips and that there was shoving and hitting on both sides.
