Peabody Surgeon Teaches Orthopedic Techniques in China

  • January 14, 2013

[The following press release was submitted by Orthopedic Marketing on behalf of Sports Medicine North.]

Sports Medicine North’s shoulder and knee surgeon, James D. O’Holleran, M.D., recently returned from a 10-day trip to China, where he provided guest lectures to doctors and medical students at universities and conferences in five major cities, including Shanghai, Beijing, Ningbo, Nanjing and Hangzhou.

Dr. O’Holleran was invited to speak in China at the designated university orthopedic departments and to serve on faculty at three major Chinese sports medicine conferences. He presented to nearly 500 doctors through 15 lectures on a variety of orthopedic topics, including the latest arthroscopic surgery techniques. In addition, he operated on local patients, performing ACL reconstruction surgery and rotator cuff repair surgery. The surgery Dr. O’Holleran performed in Nanjing was broadcasted live with the entire department present, an event covered by the local television station.

“I enjoy sharing our American techniques and methods with doctors in other parts of the world, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn from other surgeons as well,” Dr. O’Holleran says.

This is the second opportunity Dr. O’Holleran has had to work with doctors from around the world. In 2007, he was one of three United States surgeons selected to participate in the prestigious American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine traveling fellowship program, which took him to China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia and Singapore over the course of one month to lecture and provide surgical demonstrations.
